But i'll answer the question. i feel that black males and white males have progressed but divisions remain. They eat differently. Talk differently. Have different hair. The biological alterations could constitute this division.I don't want to convey insensitivity, but one prime example is how people harness the word nigger. Black people take it and drop off the r and pretty much embrace it, attenuating it's segregrating effect but not entirely eliminating it. Society's blueprint is like a mosiac. There is not real singular society but a million islands loosley connected by space. People auger their own views on blacks and whites. Perceptions depends on person to person. But it is crucial not to look at things wholly in terms of race; not to point fingers. There are other factors.

We have a black president now, and that tells me that America is shifting in a new direction; a positive direction with less prejudice and racial bias. Back then, black males were seen as inferior beings who "were one level higher than animals, with awesome physical power but lacked intellectual capacity." Manning Marable states in his passage. This is how black males were viewed during the times of slavery in White America. Have times changed since then? I would certainly say so. Throughout the years, white people have let go of their ignorant views concerning blacks and are more acceptable towards them. We have blacks and whites working at the same jobs, getting paid fairly the same amount of money and getting equal opportunities at recieving an education. Prominent figures such as Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks fought vigorously for African American civil rights and succeeded in winning these basic rights for all African Americans. However, Racism will never be wiped out of this planet. Unfortunately, as long as there are ignorant people walking this earth, racism will always flourish. Now we have "undercover racism" where it is not so noticeable but nonetheless subtly it reminds us daily that we live in an imperfect world. Racism is not so blatantly expressed now because African Americans have basic constitutional rights, meaning they have to be treated equally as whites. Although i still see how many African Americans still live below the povery line, are socially and econmically deprived of jobs and how they are abandoned i.e. in many small southern towns. America still has a long way to go in the sense of giving blacks a fair shot at becoming successful individuals.
I think that society keeps looking White males the same as before, like they are "normal human beings" and that everybody else show look like they look(white). But society changed thier point of view about Black males; before they were seem as mere beast without intelectual rasoning, now the people chose a Black male to lead the country. So now, we as society ,look Black and White the same "GREY" but with a few traces of racist ideas.
I honestly agree with this question, but back then it was worse then today'c society. I personally think that today's society is better because i see a lot of black and white males get along well and there is less racism. Since now that we have a black president is better and less racism and violence then before because back then it was worse and had to be segregated but now we can be together and become family and friends. Also back then they to had to work hard and separated but today's society they get along well and work together. Sometimes people might disagree and will say more racism and probably some black and white males might not get along but that's other people's personality wise.

In the days of slavery, Black man where were treated almost like animals and were used for physical labor, represented a threat to the white controlled political system;and "symbolized a lusty sexual potency that threatened white woman(18)".That was three basic belief of view on Black male. Today Black male have the same opportunities as white males do. In today society Black males have more political rights than before. Back then Black man could even imaged themselves as being a president,it was only possible for White males. But look who is the president now. Yes I believe it today's society has changed it's view on black and white males in contrast to the 20th century and beyond. Entering the 21st century, I feel that white Americans, had steadily accepted African American culture from the music, influence of those popular (Martin Luther King, Malcolm X), to the point where they can see us working together or living together civilly. I remember watching an episode of Oprah with my mom and the segment was from her earlier shows in the 80's that documented the changed of a small Southern town in Mississippi that was all white. The segment was a town hall meeting with Oprah discussing why the local whites didn't want any "Negeroes" living in their town. The crowd was split but as it turned out, today in that town, there is a balance of both white and black Americans in the town. I think that is a great example of how society has changed its view and it affected how we communicate with each other.
