Connections between Grazian, The Wedding Crashers and Bordo
Today we continued our discussion of masculinity as a set of behaviors which are dictated by specific context in which men find themselves in. Much like Grazian in "The Girl Hunt" points out the male collective rituals associated with "the girl hunt" and how these include homosocial bonds, the film, The Wedding Crashers, illustrates this in the relationship between the main plot(romance between John, Jeremy and the respective females) and sub or side plot (bromance). These two modes of masculine behavior can be analyzed via the lens of the "double bind of masculinity" which Bordo discusses in her chapter "gentleman or beast: double bind of masculinity." The question which we began considering is it possible for men to successfully negotiate the double bind of masculinity, or gentleman and beast?
